ELECTRICITY SUPPLY CHARGES

25 March 2025.  Consumer Protection has produced a "factsheet" about electricity charges which makes it very clear that park operators MAY NOT charge for electricity supply. If your park refuses to stop charging, let Consumer Protection know (1300 304054) or let us know via email.

DOWNLOAD THE FACTSHEET HERE

Any repayment of wrongly charged monies will need to be pursued by individuals or groups of residents as a debt through a court or by order from the State Administrative Tribunal (Sec 19 RPLST Act). The Act does make provision for the debt to be paid in the form of rent reductions. Some parks or residents may choose not to pursue repayment.

The Factsheet does state that park operators may choose to recover the charges through rent. This does not mean they can do so as an increase above the annual increase that must be stipulated in your lease. If your park operator tries to do so, ring Consumer Protection or let us know via email.

PHOAWA has a Supply Charge Repayment Calculator available for download.

We also have a sample letter requesting a refund of supply charges.

Go to RESOURCES/ELECTRICTY for more information.
